A COLLISION investigator who examined the scene of a fatal crash near Bicester told jurors he could not calculate the exact speed the accused was driving before the impact.

From the witness box at Oxford Crown Court today Andrew Evans said that the van which was struck by a BMW driven by Tahid Abdul travelled 37 metres from the moment it was hit.

Abdul, 42, of Wingate Close, Oxford, denies two counts of causing the death by dangerous driving of Kenneth, 77, and Gillian, 80, Jarvis, from Bicester.

The collision involved a Renault Kangoo van driven by Mr Jarvis and a BMW X5 driven by Abdul and occurred at about 8.15pm on Wednesday June 12 last year at the A41 and Vendee Drive junction, near Bicester.

As the trial continued Mr Evans, who was on the scene about an hour later, described to the jury what he saw.

He said the conditions were wet having rained heavily and that both vehicles had their dipped headlights switched on.

Mr Evans said there was 'extensive' damage to the van which had tumbled before landing on its roof, 37m away.

Asked about the speed the BMW was driving he said he could not calculate the precise figure because there were 'too many unknowns' in the crash.

The trial continues.
