AN OXFORD care home has dismissed rumours it has had 10 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic started.

The Oxford Mail was contacted about the claims Iffley Residential and Nursing Home and Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds confirmed concerns about the situation there had also been raised by constituents.

She added her team have drawn the attention of Oxfordshire’s Director of Public Health to the concerns and were awaiting his response.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS), has recorded 14 coronavirus deaths for the Cowley South and Iffley area, which covers the care home as well as Isis care home, since March.

While no official death toll has been released for the care home it is understood less than half of the deaths on the ONS map area can be attributed to the care home.

A spokesperson for Sanctuary Care, which runs the home, said: “While we would not comment on the medical condition of any of our residents, we understand how worrying these unprecedented times are.

"There have been no cases of Covid at the home since July and we can reassure the families of our residents that the safety of their loved ones is our absolute priority.”

They added: “We remain in regular contact with the Department of Health and Social Care and continue to closely follow the detailed public health guidance being given to care homes right across the country.”
