WITH coronavirus cases rising in Oxford and people with symptoms struggling to get tests could mobile testing return?

Oxfordshire County Council was asked if measures, such as the mobile testing unit in place off Cowley Road over the August bank holiday, were being considered.

A spokesman said the Director of Public Health would give an update ‘when he’s ready to do so’ based on statistics over a longer period of time.

It comes after several days of Oxford’s rolling weekly infection rate rising above 25 cases per 100,000 people.

The figure is judged to push the city to an ‘amber alert’ level.

This data is compiled by the Press Association and is based on the daily figures released by Public Health England.

The previous weekly rate for Oxford, in the seven days up to September 4, was 16.4.

An outbreak plan for Oxfordshire lists mobile testing as one of the measures which can be used by local public heath officials to keep cases under control.

The roadmap for how the count will deal with local coronavirus outbreaks was published by the county council at the end of June, at the direction of the Government.

The outbreak control plan’s goal is to prevent the spread of the virus by making sure any spike is picked up quickly and health officials are proactive.

Part of this is the need for enabling a ‘swift response’ to any outbreak through accessible testing.

The plan states this could include individually delivering tests, establishing local pop-up sites or housing mobile testing units at high-risk locations.
