SCHOOLS across Oxfordshire are celebrating receiving funding for important repairs.

Last week, 580 schools and colleges in England were allocated money for works to be carried out.

The Department for Education published the outcome of the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) 2020-21, which will see an additional £182m spent at 548 academies and colleges.

These projects narrowly missed the threshold when the CIF funding outcomes were announced in June.

Five schools in the county are now to benefit from a range of improvements.

St Gregory the Great Catholic School in Cowley will get repairs to its roof while Wallingford School is set to get funding for health and safety improvements.

Broken roof lights and a ruined flat roof will be replaced at John Blandy Primary School in Southmoor.

St Thomas More Catholic Primary School in Kidlington will receive fire safety improvements, having previously secured funding to have its heating fixed.

Finally, there will be a mechanical safety project at the Bicester-based Bardwell School.

Overall, £434m will be spent on 1,476 projects at 1,243 schools and colleges this year.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said the investment helps create modern environments for great teaching.
