'RADICAL feminism' and changing the Labour Party will be among the subjects at a political festival in Oxford starting this weekend.

Ex-Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell will also be among the speakers at LeftCon 2020.

Run by a group of Oxford volunteers, the online-only festival will also include sessions on gender theory and criminal justice.

Mr McDonnell and economist Grace Blakeley will address an audience virtually at a socialist economics 101 workshop where they will share their ideas and research before answering questions.

Other workshops this weekend include Housing Justice with ACORN Oxford chair Alex McKendrick; Radical Democracy with Oxford Mutual Aid co-founder Jack Doyle, and Gender Theory with local disability and trans campaigner Sarah Stephenson-Hunter.

Organiser Rabyah Khan said: “We’re really excited for the first ever LeftCon weekend. At this historic moment in politics and public policy, it’s more important than ever that we ask ourselves the big questions on what society should look like when Covid-19 passes.

"The last 10 years have seen huge changes in society with class inequality reaching new heights, public services being systematically sold off, and the economy stagnating. Covid-19 has already exposed some of these inequalities - we are delighted former Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell, Grace Blakeley and leading grassroots campaigners and activists will join us to discuss what next.
