THE UK has now officially passed 40,000 coronavirus deaths as Oxfordshire goes two weeks without any new hospital deaths from Covid-19 reported.

Across England's hospital a further 123 people, who tested positive for Covid-19 were announced today to have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 27,282.

Patients were aged between 38 and 105 years old, with one of the 123 patients (aged 86) having no known underlying health condition.

Oxfordshire hospitals, however, continued to report no new fatalities from the virus.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the John Radcliffe Hospital and Banbury’s Horton General Hospital, has recorded 177 virus deaths, with the most recent announced on May 22.

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust has reported 22 deaths. All figures are measured as of 5pm on Thursday.

Despite the lack of hospital deaths Oxfordshire has seen another slight rise in the county's infection rate, with now 303.6 cases per 100,000 people.

There have been 2,087 positive tests in Oxfordshire as of 9am on Friday.

Oxford has the highest rate of infection in the county at 421.8 and 651 cases.

For the UK as a whole there have been 283,311 lab-confirmed cases and 40,261 deaths. This was an increase of 357 on the previous day.

Globally there have now been more than 6.8 million cases and 392,000 Covid-19 deaths, as of this afternoon.
