A MAN who kicked his wife’s door in and told her ‘I will destroy you’ has been handed a community penalty.

Sachin Gurung appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court yesterday to admit one count of damaging property and another of common assault.

Outlining the case, prosecutor Dana Patel said that the 35-year-old of Gainsborough Green, Abingdon, had been married to his victim for seven years and had separated from her some months previously.

On Tuesday Gurung spoke with the woman about childcare arrangements and an argument ensued, before he went to her address.

While there, drunk, he was ‘shouting and swearing while outside’ and began kicking the door.

The court heard that he told the woman ‘I will destroy you’ as he kicked at the entrance.

The woman was left feeling ‘very scared, shaken and concerned’, prosecutors said, and it was after she had locked herself in a room that Gurung was calmed down by a family member and the police arrived.

He was handed a 15-month community order at the hearing to include 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and he must pay £200 compensation, a £90 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
