A body has been located in the search for a missing man from Abingdon.

Robert Wilson, aged 76, was reported missing on Thursday, March 12, after last being seen around The Holt that same day at around midday.

On Sunday, the body of a man was located and recovered from the River Thames between Abingdon and Culham.

Although formal identification is yet to take place, the man is believed to be Robert Wilson.

Inspector Adrian Lewis, based at Abingdon police station, said: “Searches have been ongoing since Robert Wilson was reported missing and sadly on Sunday we found a body in the River Thames.

“Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe that this is Robert.

“His next of kin have been informed.

“I would like to thank members of the community who have helped with our enquiries, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for their support.

"Our thoughts are with Robert’s family at this time.”

The death is being treated as unexplained, but not believed to be suspicious.

A file will now be prepared for the coroner.
