CORKS popped and champagne flowed when members of the Wallingford Peace Group gathered in the Market Place to celebrate the signing of the INF Treaty in 1987.
The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty was an arms control treaty between the United States and the Soviet Union, signed on December 8 that year.
In Wallingford, peace campaigners invited people from across Oxfordshire to join the celebration with a glass of bubbly and a piece of cake.
Peace group member Lucy Quinn said: “It’s been wonderful, people who normally take no notice of us have stopped to say well done.”
Meanwhile, in Thame, members of the local Peace Group organised a motorcade through the town centre.
Then they invited local people to sign two huge postcards to be sent to Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.
After that they went to Greenham Common to join the celebrations there.
