A MANUFACTURER of medical equipment is helping frontline NHS staff by 3D printing face masks.

As part of national efforts to beat the coronavirus pandemic, Stowood Scientific Instruments, which normally produces medical devices, supplies and software, will be donating about 140 protective masks a week.

The company, based in Common Road, Beckley, near Oxford, will print the masks locally from special plastic called PETg.

Stowood is among thousands of 3D-printer owners who have pledged to use their machines to help make face shields in the light of a national shortage.

CEO Gwilym Davies said: “Stowood aims to donate the masks to local as well as national hospitals. We got stuck straight in following the national appeal.”
