A PUBLIC body which looks after millions of pounds of funding for homes and roads in Oxfordshire has said more needs to be done to build eco-friendly homes.

A report into Zero Carbon Homes was discussed by the Oxfordshire Growth Board on Wednesday.

In the report Oxfordshire’s six councils, which are all partners in the £215 million growth deal the board manages, were told to write to the government asking for more measures to support zero carbon homes.

The Growth Board report said in light of the government commitment to become net zero by 2050 and council declarations of a climate emergency, more needs to be done to take solid action.

This includes making homes more environmentally friendly with sustainable building materials and new methods of insulation.

The report said a massive retro-fitting programme also needs to be carried out on homes being built across Oxfordshire at the moment.

Council have also been asked to write to the government to 'make the case' to make financial incentives available to help them carry out retrofitting.

There are measures in council local plans to make homes more energy efficient.
