ONE case of Covid-19 was confirmed at an Oxfordshire-based depot of a UK gas company.

The SGN employee who works at their Yarnton hub in Kidlington tested positive for the disease on Tuesday evening and is now self-isolating at his home.

The man tested for the virus twice but in the first instance it came out negative.

He is one of nine people in Oxfordshire to have been infected by the virus and 460 in the UK.

A colleague of his who he worked with in close proximity is also in self-isolation while he awaits Covid-19 test results.

He is, however, not showing any symptoms at the moment.

The senior manager of the two men consulted with 111if he should also self-isolate amid fears of coronavirus spread, however, he was advised that unless he shows any symptoms there is no reason for him to be in quarantine.

A spokesperson for the company Denis Kerby confirmed the reports today.

He said: "The company is in touch with the men and we are all concerned at the Oxfordshire depot.

"When it is closed to home the situation is always very different."

Mr Kerby also stated the Kidlington depot will not shut down its services.

He explained: "The man had minimal contact with his colleagues and there is noone else showing symptoms.

"We are taking all preventative measures to ensure others safety and we have upped the cleaning regimes at the depot since last week."

Mr Kerby added that the gas network is still looked after and emergency services are still operating.
