A STUDENT teacher died after he tried to take his own life.
Simon Kay died on February 9 at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Days before the Oxford University student, who was from Edinburgh, had been found hanged at his student accommodation.
The 29-year-old had been studying to become a teacher at St Johns College on St Giles in Oxford and had lived at student accommodation nearby the school.
An inquest opening into his death last Wednesday revealed that he had been found in a state of cardiac arrest at around 10pm on February 6 by somebody from the college.
The person had attempted to save his life and his heart had restarted.
However Mr Kay had already suffered a loss of oxygen to his brain.
He died at the John Radcliffe Hospital three days later.
Darren Salter, the head coroner for Oxfordshire, told Oxford Coroners Court that the official cause of death was a hypoxic brain injury.
A full inquest is expected to take place later this year, at the same court, on June 4.
There the coroner will answer four questions: who the person was, where, how, and when they came to their death.
