THE biggest street party in Oxford is back this summer and is looking for a carnival director to run the event.

Cowley Road Carnival, which will return on July 5, is also on the hunt for five ‘zone managers’ to help organise the massive free event, which last year saw 50,000 people descend on the East Oxford street.

Following the success of last year’s carnival organising charity Cowley Road Works said it was ‘focusing on developing the core operations and funding base’ and part of that involved finding someone to take on the new role of carnival director.

It will include working to encourage Oxford’s arts and cultural groups to share work at the carnival, developing a series of schools workshops, a youth street theatre academy, plus a ‘large-scale community music and dance project’.

The role of ‘zone managers’ is described as the chance ‘to have input into what goes on at carnival, and to perhaps help shape it for the future’.

The deadline to apply for carnival director is March 2 and the other organisational roles by April 5.

A volunteer coordinator is also needed, as well as a treasurer for Cowley Road Works.
