A NEW convenience store has opened its doors in a village offering residents locally sourced products.

Co-op Midcounties has brought its Your Co-op Food store to Southmoor following a £620,000 investment.

The store on Faringdon Road was officially opened by chair of Southmoor Parish Council, Virginia Grant.

Colleagues from the new convenience store were also joined by Victoria Paleit, a committee member from Southmoor Village Hall to celebrate the launch.

Southmoor’s new Your Co-op Food boasts a ‘food market’ feel, stocking over 260 locally sourced fresh products from its range.

Customers will be able to buy produce from Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire based suppliers, including Oxford Cheese Company, Hobbs House Bakery, Todenham Manor Farm and Jess’s Ladies dairy farm.

Ryan Thomas, store manager at the branch, said: “It was great to have Victoria and Virginia join in the celebrations and help us with the official ribbon cutting. We are passionate about being part of the local community and it was great to see many familiar faces come out to support us today.

"The team and I are really proud to represent so many amazing local producers and we look forward to welcoming Southmoor residents to the store in the coming weeks.”

Gin lovers can look forward to an exclusive in-store ‘gin bar’ with a selection of spirits and the new eco-friendly 2,650 sq. ft store incorporates environmentally friendly features including energy-efficient refrigerators and plastic waste recycling bins.

The shop will also sell compostable carrier bags as part of Co-op Midcounties’ commitment to sustainability and the reduction of single-use plastic in the environment.

Ms Paleit was presented with a £500 donation from Co-op Midcounties to support their work in the local community.
