A MAN accused of raping a woman in Oxfordshire has elected to face a trial by jury.

Max Warner appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday facing the single count of rape.

The 27-year-old of Dawls Close, Ascott Under Wychwood, Oxfordshire, pleaded not guilty to the alleged offence at the brief hearing.

After the plea had been entered a date for his trial was scheduled, to take place later this year.

That trial will be held at the same court on August 24.

Prosecutors allege that Warner raped a woman, aged over 16, in Oxfordshire on February 8 last year.

The alleged victim in the case cannot be named for legal reasons.

Agreeing to adjourn the case at yesterday's court hearing presiding Judge Peter Ross said that Warner had to provide a 'sufficiently detailed' defence statement ahead of the trial.

Warner was released on bail in the meantime.
