POLICE would like to speak to a man caught on CCTV about an assault which is alleged to have involved a knife.

Officers say the man would be a vital witness to a fight that took place at a bus stop in Oxford on Tuesday, January 21.

The altercation involved two groups of teenagers at the bus stop outside Junkyard Golf on Castle Street, where it is alleged that one youngster brandished a knife.

A man witnessed the incident before getting on to the No 4 bus, Oxford City going towards Wood Farm and spoke to the bus driver about what he had seen.

Thames Valley Police is now releasing an image of this man and are asking him to make contact with police.

Designated investigator Steve Nicklin, based at St Aldates police station, said: “I would like to make it very clear that the man in the image we have released is not a suspect, but I do believe that he witnessed the incident that I am investigating.

“I am urging this person to call the 24-hour non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 43200023473 or make a report online so that I can speak to him about the incident.

“It’s possible that this person may have important information about the incident.

A 16-year-old boy from Oxford was arrested on January 31 on suspicion of common assault and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place and has been released on police bail until February 28.
