COMEDIANS in Oxfordshire are joining forces to raise money for people and animals affected by the devastating damage of the Australian bush fires.

Organised by the experimental comedy collective QED Comedy Lab, the craft brewery Tap Social Movement will host the stellar line-up of performers with proceeds from ticket sales and a raffle being split evenly between Red Cross Australia and the World Wide Fund for Nature.

Some of the stars performing in the North Hinksey venue include Heidi Regan, Tara Newton-Wordsworth, Matt Chadourne and Alison Middleton.

Co-organiser Anna Dominey said: "The fires in Australia have displaced hundreds of people and have killed an estimated half a billion animals.

"We think that’s very sad and quite scary, so we’ve decided to deal with it the only way we know how: by showcasing some of our favourite comedians, from Oxford and Down Under."

Entry to the show costs £7 in advance and £10 on the door, while raffle tickets will be £2 each or 6 for £10 with top prizes ranging from meals, experiences and eco-friendly gifts from local businesses.

Speaking on behalf of Oxford Youth Strike campaigners, who are supporting the comedy gig, EJ Fawcett said: "It is so important that we acknowledge and help those who are being horrifically affected by climate change."

Scheduled for Monday, January 27, the fundraiser Stand Up to Wildfires will kick-off at 7.30pm.
