A 17-YEAR-OLD boy died after overdosing on morphine, an inquest heard today.

Louis Ciampoli-Messiou, from Bampton, died at a friend's house in Oxford on December 26, 2018.

At the inquest opening last April, it was suggested that he had died of 'multiple drug toxicity (MDMA and morphine)'.

However, since then, evidence in an expert toxicologist report led Senior Coroner for Oxfordshire, Darren Salter, to the conclusion that the cause of death was morphine toxicity.

In the report, it stated that Louis had consumed a 'fatal' amount of morphine.

Although he had taken other drugs such as MDMA and cannabis, Robert Flanagan said in his report that it was 'unlikely' that these drugs were factors in his death.

Coroner Darren Salter said: "I’m satisfied by all the evidence given to me that Louis died due to morphine toxicity whilst staying at his friend's house in Oxford. The cause is drug related death as explained."

Louis was a college student studying business and tourism and his mother, Lisa, described him as a 'happy boy who had so many friends'.

His father said in a statement that Louis had been staying at a friend's house in Oxford at the weekends for around six months in 2018.

He spent Christmas Day evening at this same friend's house - who cannot be named due to legal reasons - but was found unresponsive the following afternoon.

DS Ben Henley, investigating sergeant on the case, said that during the night of Christmas Day into Boxing Day, the pair took class A drugs.

He said Louis' friend woke up at 12pm believing Louis was asleep, but when he woke up later, he realised he could not wake him.

He called his father who then called the ambulance and paramedics arrived to find Louis had no pulse, was not breathing and there was no sign of activity on the ECG monitor.

The death was treated as unexplained up until the toxicology report was released.

The coroner heard evidence from Mr Henley that Louis' friend had found a medicine bottle in the bin and they had drank some before going to bed that night.

He also heard evidence that the police found ten brown bottles around the house outside which all contained liquid morphine.

After looking at their mobile phones, the police did not find any texts to identify what happened but a 15 second "selfie video" taken at 4.33am on Louis' phone showed evidence of recreational drug use.

In the video, Louis "appears to be high" and a bowl was seen with liquid in.

Mr Henley said: "Police are of the belief that a tragic event occurred. It is not known how he (Louis) came into possession of MDMA or morphine, however it is believed his events were pre-planned. He had willingly taken MDMA and morphine."
