AN ENTRANCE to the John Radcliffe Hospital intended for ambulances and buses only has been left open to all drivers due to broken bollards.

The Saxon Way access to the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) site has been unrestricted since January 16, with a resident saying it was only days since the last time the rising bollards had been stuck down.

Nick Fell, speaking on behalf of North Way Residents' Association, said the 'dangerous' situation was a regular problem with people 'given the run around' when they try to report it to the hospital trust.

He said:"It's a huge ongoing issue because that entrance is supposed to be just for ambulances and buses. Now just anyone can drive through.

"It's dangerous and people speed down Saxon Way already so it causes a big problem for residents."

The 47-year-old added: "As soon as the bollards are down cars start using it and it's an accident waiting to happen.

"When you try to report it to the hospital you are given the run around with no one taking responsibility."

A spokesperson from OUH said: “We are aware of a maintenance issue relating to the bollards at the bus gate on Saxon Way, and we are working hard to ensure that this matter is resolved as soon as possible.

“We are waiting for specialist parts, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to local residents.”
