THE Village Pump folk club in Trowbridge has booked a great programme of performers for its new 2020 spring season.

It will kick off on Friday, January 10 with Dom Prag, a young singer-songwriter from Southampton, whose debut album Young Man on a Ferry is out now.

Rosie Upton, spokesman for the Village Pump, said: Dom has appeared at folk clubs from Teeside to Devon and everywhere in between.

“His style mixes lyrical songs with stylish guitar work to create a complex, raw sound.

“His own songs are stories, folk tales, love letters - joyous, hopeful and heart-breaking in equal measures.

“He crafts arrangements to traditional folk songs that are imaginative and rousing while staying true to the spirit of each song.

“I saw him in concert in Chippenham in December where he gave a stunning performance.”

Other performers already booked to appear include Phil King on February 7, Ewan McLennan on March 6, Bob and Gill Berry on April 3, and The Yirdbards on May 1 performing Great Clattinger.

Phil King is a Bristol based singer, songwriter and guitarist of considerable energy and talent added to which is a charismatic stage presence, ear for a great tune and a soulful voice.

One of his albums, The Wreckage, was recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Box.

Ewan McLennan is known as a folk singer and guitarist at the very forefront of his generation; a troubadour, balladeer and storyteller cut in the old style; a singer that can move audiences with his passion andpathos;and a songwriter for whom social justice is still a burning issue.

Bob and Gill Berry are a Wiltshire-based duowho combine great vocal harmonies and sensitive guitar arrangements with a mix of mainly traditional and some contemporary songs.

Their latest acclaimed album Echos of Alfred features songs collected by late 19th early 20th century poet Alfred Williams of South Marston near Swindon.

The Village Pump has also arranged Open Mic nights on the third Friday of each month. This year’s spring season dates will be January 17, February 21, March 20, April 17 and May 15

The Village Pump is located behind The Lamb Inn in Mortimer Street, Trowbridge, BA14 8BN. Tickets £10 on the door. Open Mics £3 on the door. Doors open at 7.30pm for 8pm start.
