A BRIGHT and colourful mural could be painted onto the side of an Oxford community centre.

The front of the Barton Neighbourhood Centre could be painted with a mural which features colourful characters representing doctors, athletes, and martial artists alongside pictures of sandwiches and musical instruments.

A planning application has been made to Oxford City Council to paint the mural by a member of staff from the council.

The design of the mural has been decided upon after the city council asked the opinions of people living in the area around the centre.

This included neighbours, shop owners, the organisations based in the building and people who use the Barton Neighbourhood Centre.

According to the planning application: “their views were used to write a brief that was sent to a community artist. The artist then created a series of options and one design was chosen and agreed with the organisations who are based within the centre, as well as management at the council and local councillors.”

Barton Neighbourhood Centre houses a GP surgery and a community cafe.

The application will now be considered by the council’s planning team.
