FORTY people have bid on some hallmarked jewellery being sold by the police.

The bundle of jewellery, which includes two sparkly silver rings, a silver chain bracelet, a gold chain necklace and a gold ring, are currently being sold for more than £300 – the most expensive listing on Thames Valley Police's eBay page this week.

The force using the buying and selling website to sell old evidence and unclaimed items.

Some of it has been stolen and then seized by officers in an investigation, or handed in at stations.

They hold the items for a while before making the decision to give it away, bin it or sell it.

The eBay page is where all of the selling pile ends up being listed at a starting price of 99p.

But buyers battle with bids and often the final price ends up at a fraction off the retail price.
