A MAN with a gun had a stand-off with police lasting more than 12 hours.

Now, more than a year on, police officers at the scene have been praised for their 'calm and collected' leadership and bravery.

In May 2018, 26-year-old Duncan Shearman, had been in a verbal fight with his neighbour at Paradise Square and was seen to pick up a gun and point it at them as they walked away.

Police officers from Oxford rushed to the scene at 1.15pm on May 7 and had to evacuate streets nearby.

Shearman then started shooting at officers and throwing things off the balcony for more than 12 hours, until at 3am the next day he gave himself up.

He was sentenced to six years in prison.

PC Claire Dye-Lewis, PC Jonathon Lewis, PC Rob Lucarotti, PC James O'Carroll, Inspector Euan Livingstone and Sergeant Gordon McKay were all awarded for their efforts at the Chief Constable Awards Ceremony, which was held last week on Thursday.

A statement from Thames Valley Police said: "The officers demonstrated calm and collected leadership throughout the incident and acted with selflessness and bravery."
