A BOWLS club plagued by vandalism and break ins has been targeted again by thugs who kicked down its door and punched holes in changing room walls.

It comes after a spate of attacks on West Oxford Bowls Club’s building last year, which saw similar destruction, as well as smashed windows, mirrors and debris thrown across the floor.

Club secretary Andy Webber said members were disheartened to see their base ‘once again’ broken into and vandalised following refurbishment work to repair the previous damage and strengthen changing room walls.

The door of the Botley Road building was completely destroyed, with large holes left in white wooden pallets which make up the women's changing room walls.

Mr Webber said: “It’s just getting so regular now. They couldn’t get through the padlock so they kicked the door in. I’m sure it’s only kids, if it were homeless people I wouldn't be so bothered as they wouldn’t cause such wanton vandalism.”

He added the break in, which took place sometime between Wednesday afternoon when it was last used by members and Friday at midday, was not as 'severe’ as last time, which caused around £500 in damages.

Mr Webber explained: “It’s not where we did the refurbishment, it’s in the ladies changing rooms this time.

"I think they tried the men’s but couldn’t do much so they went in the other one and did some damage in there.”

Last year there were three escalating attacks on the club building, all in September.

The first incident saw someone try to force their way into the club house, but on that occasion the locks held.

The vandals, however, did make their way into the changing rooms and caused minor damage.

During the second attack a few days later the changing rooms were again broken into and the wooden panels on the walls battered in.

Mr Webber penned a note in the hope of reasoning with their anonymous adversaries.

He wrote: "We are doing our best to run a small bowls club and people like yourself are doing your best to ruin it."

The vandals returned, however, causing even more destruction the following day.

The latest incident also comes following a burglary in September.

Thieves on that occasion broke into the bowls club through the front door and stole cash, forcing their way into the building, going to the bar area and stealing a cash box with money inside.

The box was later found empty on the Botley Park bowling green.

Thames Valley Police confirmed last week's had been reported by the club at the Botley Road building. A spokeswoman for the force added: “The investigation has been filed pending further information coming to light.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting crime reference number 43190349414. Mr Webber urged anyone who may have seen something to get in touch with police.
