THE opening of the new Sainsbury’s Local has been delayed by a week.

The new supermarket branch is being built on the ground floor of the Royal Oxford Hotel, close to Said Business School and the railway station.

Last month contractors started work to fit out the new Frideswide Square store and signs went up saying it would open on Thursday.

But new signs say it will instead open on Thursday, November 21.

The supermarket chain has been given planning permission to construct the mini-supermarket on the ground floor of the hotel.

Property consultants VSL said earlier that the supermarket giant, which also runs stores in Magdalen Street, St Aldate’s and the Westgate Centre, has bought a 15-year lease.

The space was being marketed for restaurants before Britain’s third largest supermarket chain snapped it up.
