JOSH Ruffels believes Oxford United are playing better football than at any point in his six years at the club.

The left back scored the opening goal in a dominant 3-0 victory over Rochdale that put Karl Robinson’s side fifth in Sky Bet League One.

It stretched their unbeaten run to 10 games, with the last defeat coming at Fleetwood Town on the first weekend of September.

United were in control by half-time through goals from Ruffels and Tariqe Fosu and a red card for Rochdale’s Aaron Wilbraham.

But the 26-year-old, who is one of the few survivors from the Michael Appleton side which stylishly won promotion four seasons ago, felt United were comfortably on top before the sending off.

He said: “We were playing some great stuff even before the red card.

“The style of football at the moment is great, probably the best that I’ve played in since I’ve been here.

“We didn’t give them any chances, I don’t think Easty (Simon Eastwood) had any saves to make.

“It’s a credit to everyone on the pitch. The football we play is a pleasure, so when we’re on a winning run we ooze confidence.”

The victory made it four successive 3-0 home league wins for the U’s, but the scoreline arguably flattered their opponents.

United were on the hunt for goals right up until the final whistle and perhaps should have converted more of their 30 shots.

But Ruffels was delighted United did not get complacent and claims that mindset will help keep their unbeaten run going.

He said: “We’re working our socks off in training, so it’s enjoyable at the moment.

“But we all know not to get too high. It’s a cliché, but we want to stay grounded as it’s still very early days.”

United’s win capped an excellent 24 hours for joint-top scorer James Henry, who on Friday signed an improved two-year contract, with the option of an extra year.

The midfielder was unable to celebrate by getting on the scoresheet, but the performance means he remains confident the U’s can challenge for promotion.

He said: “It’s a great personal achievement and to back it up with a win shows we’re on the right path.

“I feel like we’ve got a great chance this season.

“I’m really enjoying it here – we’ve got the blend of young boys and experienced players just right and long may it continue.”
