A PUPPY was taken into the care of police after reports of it being abused on the streets of Oxford.

In a tweet shared late last night, Thames Valley Police Oxford said 'concerned' members of the public approached uniformed officers in the city centre, reporting that men were 'abusing a dog in the street.'

The post added: "The young pup was taken off the males and is now safe being kennelled locally.

"Criminal proceedings are being considered for the owners."

A picture shared with the post showed a sad-looking puppy sat in the back of a car.

One woman responded: "Well done those members of the public and TVP, thank goodness this little one is safe."

Another tweeted in response: "This is utterly heart-shattering. Poor pup needs so many cuddles and a warm, safe home to grow up in."
