CONTORTIONISTS and clowns entertained crowds of spectators at an accessible circus.

Circus Starr, billed as the circus with a purpose, brought big top performances to Oxford's South Park on Saturday.

The not-for-profit circus tours the country and prides itself on being accessible for children with disabilities, and families who might not otherwise be able to afford tickets.

Organisers contact businesses to invite them to make a donation, allowing the circus to offer up to 1,000 free tickets to the local community.

OX IT Solutions Ltd and the band United Vibe were among supporters of the Oxford show.

Beneath the starry canopy of the tent, ringmaster James Ellis introduced acts including acrobats, Andreea the clown and a diabolo juggler.

Commenting on the circus's Facebook page, one mother who attended said: "What a wonderful show from each and everyone of you, extremely talented! We didn’t stop smiling and clapping throughout."

The travelling facilities include a Changing Places toilet, which have an adult-sized changing bench and a hoist, and are accessible for people with profound disabilities.

At all our performances the volume is lower, there are no fast flashing lights and people are welcome to dance and shout out.
