POLICE say the man shown in a CCTV image that they have released could help them with an investigation into an assault and theft in Oxford.

The incident happened at around 5pm on Wednesday, June 26 when a man stole an unlocked bike on New Inn Hall Street in Oxford.

After the victim saw, he chased after the offender into Cornmarket Street, where he was stopped and retrieved his bike.

The 24-year-old victim was then punched a number of times and as he tried to contact police, the offender snatched his mobile phone and ran off towards High Street.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his face.

Investigating officer PC Donal McGuckin of Oxford CID based at St Aldates police station, said: “I am releasing this CCTV image as I believe that the man pictured may have vital information that can assist my investigation.

“If anybody recognises this person, or indeed you are this man, please contact the 24-hour non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 43190194941.”

Officers are also appealing for another specific witness to come forward.

This man was white, wearing a black and grey jumper and had short, shaven hair.

PC McGuckin added: “I am directly appealing to this man to contact us. I believe he may have information that can help in this investigation, and so if you believe this was you, please contact us.
