AHEAD of each of United’s games this season, we are looking back at memorable matches against their next opponents.

March 27, 2012: Accrington Stanley 0, Oxford United 2

ASA Hall’s terrific goalscoring form continued as Oxford United rose to sixth in npower League Two with a valuable victory at Accrington Stanley.

The midfielder’s double took his own tally to five goals in seven games and the U’s clear of the chasing pack in the race for the play-offs.

Hall notched in each half and almost opened the scoring in the second minute when he headed a Peter Leven corner narrowly wide.

Good chances were a rarity in a cagey start to the game, but it took a goalline clearance from Jake Wright to prevent Jamie Devitt’s volley from finding the net.

But on 42 minutes the visitors were ahead, when James Constable forced a home defender into a hurried clearance.

The loose ball fell to Hall, who broke into the area and fired past Stanley goalkeeper Lee Nicholls.

The midfielder had a header tipped around the post early in the second half, while at the other end Ryan Clarke parried Padraig Amond’s header and Robert Grant blazed over.

Hall made the points safe with 17 minutes left, winning the ball high up the pitch and combining with Constable before planting a close-range header past the helpless Nicholls.
