A LITTLE girl who became a proud big sister to twin babies just weeks ago has died in a 'tragic accident.'

The 'heartbreaking' death of Freya Thorpe has prompted a huge community response to support her family, with friends and strangers alike donating £11,000 to a fundraising page.

It is understood Freya was a pupil at Heyford Park Free School, in Upper Heyford near Bicester, aged just four.

According to a public GoFundMe page in her memory, she was injured on Sunday and died the following day - just two weeks after her parents welcomed twin babies into the world.

The page was set up to help Freya's family pay for funeral costs and relocate, as returning home after what happened 'is impossible.'

It states: "On [Sunday] beautiful little Freya Thorpe had a very serious accident.

"She fought so hard to stay with us for over 24 hours but sadly grew her little wings."

The page said Freya became a 'doting big sister' two weeks ago, adding: "[Her parents] are doing everything they can to cover all of their expenses, are very proud people, but nobody can be prepared emotionally or financially for a tragedy so sad.

"I can’t begin imagine the pain they are going through, so I’ve set up this GoFundMe to help cover the expenses of them relocating as them going back to their home is impossible, living and giving their beautiful daughter the send-off she deserves."

In the space of just one day more than £10,000 was donated, and the total has been rising ever since.

One supporter wrote on the page: "Absolutely heartbreaking, thoughts are with you all."

Others who knew Freya described her as a 'beautiful angel' and a 'little princess.'

One donor wrote: "My heart is breaking for you at this horrendous living nightmare that no parent should have to go through.

"Rest in peace beautiful and be that amazing angel, watching over your brother and sister and mummy and daddy too."

Another added: "Absolutely devastating news. She touched so many people's hearts, you are all in my thoughts."

Also commenting on the page, Freya's uncle described her as his 'beautiful little niece who was tragically taken away.'

The page shares heartbreaking photos of Freya smiling in her school uniform, and on the hospital bed with her new baby siblings.

The nature of the accident has not yet been made public, but the Upper Heyford community has united in the days since her death.

Heyford Park Football Club will be collecting donations at its matches this weekend, while the Heyford Aardvarks running club has organised a run taking place in Upper Heyford on Monday evening, inviting people to donate £5 and walk, jog or run for Freya's family.
