A MAN who stabbed his ex-partner 15 times in front of her five-year-old daughter has been found guilty of attempted murder.

Jordan Anderson ran across a busy road from outside Bury Knowle Park to reach Aleah Masih, who was standing in the car park of the Headington Co Op store after collecting her child from school.

A jury of seven women and five men returned a quick guilty verdict this afternoon after being dismissed by Judge Peter Ross at Oxford Crown Court just after midday.

The court heard CCTV showed it took just one minute 24 seconds for the 30-year-old to run across the road, launch his 'frenzied' attack and then flee.

Anderson had already admitted wounding with intent in relation to the incident, which took place at about 3pm on March 12, as well as having an offensive weapon - a knife, as well as stalking the mother in the run up to the attack.

Anderson, of no fixed abode, however, had denied one count of attempted murder.

Judge Ross summed up the evidence presented during the week-long trial this morning before the jury was sent out to deliberate.

He told the jury that the violent attack was 'not like a crime drama' and there may be 'loose ends' but that it was their job to decide if the prosecution had proved the 'quite narrow' allegation that Anderson intended to kill his ex-partner when he launched his 'frenzied' attack on her.

During the case jurors heard from the victim who said that she was holding her daughter's hand during the assault at the London Road supermarket.

She said: "I didn't think he was stabbing me at first, I thought he was just punching me in the arm.

"I think he was trying to get to my neck, I was just closing into myself."

Recalling the moments after Anderson had fled the scene and the violence was over she said: "I could hear [my daughter] saying mummy, screaming, and when I looked up she was crying."

Judge Ross recounted medical evidence which said there had been an injury to the woman's spine, a 'classic defensive' hand wound that required surgery, as well as other stab and slash wounds, categorised as 'moderate' force, to her arm, head and neck.

He told the jury: "The issue for you is what did he intend at the time of the stabbing."

Anderson, who is a chef, took to the witness box last week to deny wanting to kill his ex-partner despite saying he 'can't remember' attacking her.

He said: "I stabbed her obviously and it is hard for me to think about because it is not something I could ever think about doing.

"I think to myself why did I do that and I can't even say why or give an explanation why.

"I wish I could just turn back time and not do it."

Judge Ross described witness statements that said Anderson had appeared 'focused' as well as 'calm and steady' throughout and that Ms Masih had been 'backing away' from him and 'winced in anticipation as if expecting to get hit'.

Emily Smith was closest to the pair and had told Anderson to leave the mother alone when he first came up to her.

In a recorded interview she had with police, Ms Smith said of the knife attack that followed: “There was so much force in it, so much force, I didn’t think he was going to stop.

“He was doing it even though she was trying to protect herself he was still trying to do it to her face.

“He was using a lot of force, he was just yanking the knife back in, back out, and he was doing that in different places. He took it out and put it back in, took it out and put it back in.”

Anderson is set to be sentenced tomorrow morning at 10am at Oxford Crown Court.
