A CHARITY will hold its annual walk in Oxford to raise funds to support people with dementia in the county.

The Alzheimer's Society's Memory Walk will take place next month at University Parks.

There will be a shorter 3km walk suitable for all ages including pushchairs and wheelchairs, plus a 6.5km route which will loop around the park.

Both will start and finish by Gingko Gates, off Park Road.

Those who have already signed up for the event on Sunday, September 14 have so far raised £6,406 for the charity.

Last year 1,200 fundraisers descended on University Parks for the walk, which was led by Only Fools and Horses actress Sue Holderness, best known for her role as Marlene Boyce in the classic comedy.

Registration closes on Thursday, September 12, and people will not be able to register at the event.

Entry is £10 with under 16s able to take part for free.

Arrive from 10am with the walk starting from 11am.

Memory Walks take place up and down the UK throughout the year to raise money for the 220,000 people who develop dementia every 12 months.

Dementia is estimated to affect more than 8,400 people in Oxfordshire.
