Dogs are meant to be man’s best friend, and what man, or woman, come to that, doesn’t want to take their best friend to the pub?

If dog-owners take their pet to the Cold Harbour Pub in Broad Blunsdon on Monday, which is National Dog Day as well as the bank holiday, then they’ll get a free pint.

It’s part of a national scheme run by the pub’s owners, the Chef and Brewer chain.

A spokesman said: “We found that a staggering 77 per cent of dog owners admitted that they would rather spend time with their dog than their spouse and 85 per cent went as far to say their pooch was their ‘best friend’.

"Our research showed 55 per cent of dog owners would choose to take their canine companion to the pub with them over their partner, friend or family member.”

To get your free pint, or glass or wine or measure of spirits, visit the Cold Harbour on Monday and show you've brought your dog with you when ordering at the bar.

The offer is limited to one drink per person.

Soft drinks are also available. As well as water for your dog, of course.
