A MAN has been found guilty of multiple offences including assaulting a police officer in Abingdon.

Robert Zasada, 28, of no fixed abode, stole a VW Sharan from outside a property on Stonhouse Crescent, Radley, at around 2am on Monday, February 18 this year before crashing into a tree, lamppost and parked car later that morning on Radley Road, Abingdon.

When police arrived at the scene, Zasada assaulted one of the officers and failed to do a breathalyser test.

He pleaded guilty to one count of burglary, one count of aggravated vehicle taking, one count of driving without insurance, one count of driving without licence, one count of failing to provide a specimen of breath and one count of assault by beating of an emergency worker at Hove Trial Centre Crown Court last Thursday.

He is scheduled to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on September 2.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Dan Tibble of South and Vale Area CID said: “Robert Zasada burgled a property in Stonhouse Crescent, Radley in the early hours of Monday 18 February this year.

“Zasada took a set of car keys and used the keys to subsequently steal a VW Sharan which was parked outside the property.

“A few moments later, Zasada then crashed the vehicle in Radley Road, Abingdon. He lost control of the car, which then left the road, mounted a verge before colliding with a tree, a lamppost and a parked car.

“Police officers arrived at the scene where Zasada assaulted one of the officers.

“While in police custody, Zasada then failed to provide a specimen of breath.

“All too often Police officers and staff who work on the frontline enforcing the law are assaulted and this case highlights this serious issue.

“I am pleased that Zasada has been convicted and will be sentenced in due course.”
