A teenage motorcyclist who gave fake details following a crash has been banned from the roads and told to pay compensation after police recognised him from a picture taken by the other driver at the scene.

The 17-year-old appeared at Swindon Youth Court failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving with due care, having no licence and being uninsured.

He was disqualified from driving for six months, referred to the Swindon Youth Offender Panel and instructed to pay £300 compensation.

The case followed an incident in Brimble Hill, Wroughton on June 28 when a black motorbike collided with the back of an Audi A7. The rider spoke to the driver, but provided false information, and the driver became suspicious so took a photograph of him which he showed to the police.

Officers recognised the defendant, who cannot be named because he is under 18, and he was arrested. PC Ben Agate, from Wiltshire Police Specialist Operations, said: “This is a great example of our specialist teams working closely with our local policing teams to provide assistance.

“The defendant was quickly identified due to the local knowledge of an officer in our community policing team, who then called on the extra resources of our specialist teams to assist with locating and arresting this teenager.

“We know local people are concerned about issues around teenagers on motorcycles riding around dangerously and in an anti-social way, and this case proves we will make arrests and get them off our roads.”
