A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon after an 'incident' involving a machete in Oxford.

Police cuffed the 24-year-old yesterday and he was in custody last night.

Officers said it was in connection with an incident in Windale Avenue, Oxford, on Thursday, involving a machete.

Detective Inspector James Senior of Force CID at Oxford police station, said: “I would like to appeal for any witnesses to this incident.

“This occurred in a busy area in the afternoon therefore I believe there will have been a number of people who could have seen it taking place.

“We are committed to tackling incidents involving offensive weapons in our communities and would ask anyone with information to come forward and speak to police.

“Anyone who is aware of offensive weapons being present in our communities is asked to report it to us by calling 101, or via Crimestoppers anonymously.”
