MORE than 600 steam engines and other vintage vehicle will go on show at a long-running rally today.

Hot air balloons will also descend on the 56th annual Woodcote steam rally all this weekend.

A festival of ale also forms part of the fun, alongside a host of attractions of children live music.

Held for the first time in 1964 as a one-day event for fans of vintage means of transport, over the years the annual rally has grown into a separate institution, organising each year a weekend of attractions to raise funds for local good causes.

Held on the outskirts of Woodcote, a picturesque Chiltern Hills village about 20 miles south of Oxford, the rally is mostly famous for its huge collection of various steam-engine vehicles, which will go on parade today at 2.15pm.

The program includes also a tractor driving competition, miniature steam rides, military vehicles, motor cycles and three classes of cars.

The hot air balloon show is planned for 6pm today, but is dependent on weather conditions.

The Rally opens at 10am on both days and closes at 11pm on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday.

A family ticket for two adults and up to three children costs £25, while individual adult tickets are £10 and over-60s can get in for £8. Under-16s cost £5.
