THE Mayor and Mayoress of an Oxfordshire town will be sweating ahead of a charity walk with a difference.

The Wallingford pair are taking part in a firewalk, after a September funday.

Professional firewalker Lottie Moore will be overseeing the event at the Kinecroft Park on Saturday, September 14, with the dusk antics fundraising for local charity Nasio Trust.

From midday onwards, a family friendly fun day ahead of the spectacular fiery event will see a kids show in the 'Greatest Showman Tent'; fun fair rides; a bouncy castle; face painting; hot food and drinks and various other stalls and activities.

The Christian charity, based in Abingdon, supports children in Africa and is hoping to raise £10,000.

Child sponsorship and admin officer Chantelle McDowell explained: "Funds raised will go towards the eradication of jiggers (a flesh-eating flea that burrows into feet, causing incredible discomfort).

"The simple solution is shoes. (But) rather than donating shoes, which can be costly to export, we aim to set up a shoe making workshop, which will simultaneously provide much-needed employment. What better way to raise money for shoes than embarking upon a barefoot challenge?"

Both events are free, but entry for each walker is £25 and they are asked for a fundraising commitment of at least £100.
