A BLUE plaque has been unveiled in north Oxford for renowned gynaecologist Professor Chassar Moir.

Prof Moir died in 1977 and now his family has linked up with the Oxfordshire Blue Plaques Board to erect the tribute at 11, Chadlington Road, where he lived between 1938 and 1957.

Prof Moir was the first Nuffield Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was in charge of the newly expanded Nuffield Maternity Home at the hospital.

Prof Moir’s family gathered for the ceremony on Saturday.

The plaque was unveiled by Prof Moir’s son John Moir, and a tribute was given by David Baldwin, Nuffield Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Emeritus.

Prof Moir’s daughters Jane and Priscilla also attended with other family members.
