A MURAL featuring caricatures of high-profile Tory politicians has been painted on the side of an Oxford house.

The huge satirical art piece sprawls across the height and length of a wall in Rose Hill, depicting senior party figures inside a boat.

Text painted above the sails states: "Ship of fools."

It appears to show Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Jacob Rees-Mogg on the ship, with David Cameron in the centre.

Former Witney MP Mr Cameron has been painted with a pig on his head, in apparent reference to the unsavoury rumour about his student antics while at Oxford University.

The mural has been proudly displayed on the side of a house in Westbury Crescent, swallowing a window.

It is not clear if the piece was commissioned or if it was a personal political statement by the artist, as the residents were not at home when the Oxford Mail visited.

Choppy green seas churn below the ship and a large fish or shark holds another politician's head in the water.

The artist responsible has signed the wall as 'Asbirdman.'

An Instagram account of the same name shows the artist completing the mural in mid March, holding a spray paint can on a ladder.

Pictures of other street art on the account, by the same artist, include the colourful musician mural on Marston Street off Cowley Road.

'Ship of fools' was famously used as an analogy by Plato, and has since translated to popular culture, providing the title for almost two dozen songs including the 1980s rock track by World Party.

On Monday the 10 candidates were announced in the Conservative leadership race, including Michael Gove and Boris Johnson.
