A 'BULLET train' will conduct a special speed run between Oxford and London Paddington this morning.

The non-stop service departs Oxford at 11.27am and marks the 175th anniversary of the railway being opened between the city and Didcot.

The effort is organised by GWR and used one of the company's bullet style trains, which operates all of its long distance routes.

UPDATE: 'Bullet train' smashes Oxford to London speed record

A practice run on Friday completed the distance in just 39 minutes.

The speed run reflects a similar journey to mark the opening of the line in 1844.

A day of events will take place on the line between Didcot and Oxford on Saturday.
