HOME to Iffley Lock, a nature reserve and a 12th-century church, Iffley has retained its village character despite being brought into Oxford city's boundaries decades ago.
It is thought the village was founded between 1000 and 1050 AD, probably because the land was on higher ground near the River Thames and safer from flooding.

Two hotels, a community shop, a special school and two pubs call the village home.
Here we look back on photos dating back as far as the 1950s, including a class at Iffley Mead School, which became The Iffley Academy.
