JURORS in the trial of a woman who allegedly lied to police about who was driving after her car was caught speeding have begun their deliberations.

Prosecutors at Oxford Crown Court claim that Vanessa Cooke, of Rye Grass, Woodstock, submitted a false 'section 172' form, nominating her uncle as the driver when her car was seen speeding at 53mph in a 30mph area.

The 41-year old denies one count of perverting the course of justice.

This afternoon jurors heard closing speeches from the prosecution and from defence teams delivering their final arguments.

After presiding Judge Maria Lamb summed up the case, jurors were sent away to begin their deliberations.

Outlining the case on Monday, prosecutor Richard Sedgwick told jurors that the lies began when a Range Rover registered in her name was seen driving 53mph in a 30mph area on the A44 near Blenheim Palace.

The alleged speeding, he told jurors, happened at 9.13am on the morning of February 6, 2017.

When she was later asked to state in writing who was driving, Cooke told officers that her uncle was behind the wheel.

She claimed that he had gone to Bladon Primary School to pick up her son who had suffered an injury to the head.

It was claimed that she went on to show signed 'green slips' purporting to be from the school and wrongly stating the injury had occurred that day to support her case.

Cooke denies any wrong-doing and the trial continues.
