FOUR people charged with fraud offences after an 'extensive' murder investigation spanning five years have made their first appearance at the crown court.

Thames Valley Police has been investigating the death of James Sootheran, 59, who was known by his middle name Anthony.

He was found dead at his home in South Newington, between Banbury and Chipping Norton, on March 18, 2014.

The post mortem found that Mr Sootheran died from pneumonia, which was caused by malnourishment.

Last month a man and a woman were charged in relation to that investigation, with murder. Lynda Rickard, 60, and Wayne Rickard, 64, both of Edinburgh Close, Banbury.

At Oxford Crown Court yesterday four others charged with fraud offences in connection made their first appearance.

While no plea was taken at that hearing a provisional trial date was set, to take place at the same court, and together with the two accused of murder.

That trial, which is estimated will take up to 10 weeks, will be heard on January 6 next year.

The four who appeared at the crown court yesterday were:

- June Alsford, 76, of Little Lane in Aynho, charged with one count of fraud by false representation, and one count of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
