TRAFFIC has now returned to normal on the A34 after a two-car crash northbound near Hinksey Hill Interchange this morning.

Paramedics and the firefighters attended the incident at around 8.30am, freeing a woman trapped in her car after it went into a ditch.

One lane was intitially closed following the crash at around 8.30am.

There was queueing traffic for around six miles from Hinksey Hill Interchange stretching back to Marcham Interchange for hours after all lanes reopened, with delays reported of up to 45 minutes.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said: "We received a 999 call at 8.33am this morning with the caller reporting a two car collision on the A34 northbound at South Hinksey, resulting in one car coming off the carriageway and into a ditch.

"We sent a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the incident; the female driver of the car in the ditch was released from the vehicle with the assistance of the fire service and after initial assessment at the scene was then taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

"Her injuries were fortunately not serious."
