THAMES Valley Police chief constable Francis Habgood will hang up his hat today as he steps down from the role.

Mr Habgood will work his final shift today as chief constable for the force, a role he has been in for the past four years.

It comes as the 32nd year of service for the officer who started policing originally on the beat in Leeds more than three decades ago.

He officially retires at the end of the month but with annual leave has his finally working day in the role today.

The chief constable said he would spend it mostly in a counter-terrorism meeting.
