POLICE have issued a further appeal to help track down a sex attacker who crept into a home in East Oxford and sexually assaulted a young woman.

The attack happened in Divinity Road at around 4am on Saturday, February 9 with the attacker still on the loose.

Today Thames Valley Police have released CCTV footage of a man they believe could have vital information in the case.

The footage shows the male riding a bike in the area around the time of the incident.

Officers say the attacker gained access to the property through an insecure window before he sexually assaulted the woman, aged in her 20s.

The victim did not require hospital treatment but is continuing to be supported by specially trained officers.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the area following the incident while residents were warned to lock their doors and 'remain vigilant'.

Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Bruce Riddell of the Oxford Investigation Hub, said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim and she is being supported throughout this investigation.

“The local community will have noticed an increased police presence, this is to support ongoing enquiries and provide reassurance.

“Patrols will continue in the area, so we also would like to encourage anyone who has information about this incident to either get in touch or approach an officer.

“It is two weeks on Saturday since this incident took place, we would ask people in the local community to think back to the hours between 12.30am and 4.30am on the February 9 and consider whether you saw anything suspicious in the area of Cowley Road, Rectory Road or Divinity Road.

“It is also important that we speak to the man in these CCTV images, as he could have vital information to help with this case.

“If you think you know who this is, or you believe it could be you in these images, please contact police.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their assistance and support so far in this investigation we are actively pursuing a number of line of enquiry.”

Police confirmed one arrest had been made in connection with the attack however the suspect was later released with no further action taken.
