A TEENAGER has been arrested following a high-speed smash in Halliwell Road.

Shortly before 6.50pm on Monday night, a white BMW collided with a red Hyundai before colliding with two parked BMWs, near the junction with Raglan Street.

Both drivers escaped with only minor injuries, and firefighters who attended the scene say the pair had a "lucky escape" considering the impact of the crash.

Halliwell Road was closed in both directions for several hours while emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the crash.

A 19-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs, possession of offensive weapons, money laundering and dangerous driving.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and has been released under investigation.

A man in his 20s was also taken to hospital for treatment.

Martin Finch, watch manager at Bolton Central fire station said: “One vehicle was coming down at a high speed when it collided with another car while trying to overtake it, and smashed into two parked cars.

“They were very lucky considering the impact of the crash. It could have been a lot worse.

"All four vehicles were written off.”

The road has since been reopened and police enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
